Maria incorporates a wide variety of gems, polished stone, pearls, precious metals and glass to create the pieces in her collection. Colorful silk cord, leather or silver are used to construct the pieces. Bamboo and tagua nut – both sustainable products, also can be found in the collections, both being finely carved and creating a beautiful pendant for the piece while creating environmentally friendly jewelry. Maria does not use any endangered items such as coral, shells, wood or ivory, and is selective regarding the pearls used. Sterling silver is used most frequently, but brass is also used is some pieces as is gold plate. Nickel and lead are never utilized.
About the Construction
Knotting, stringing and wire wrapping are the principle construction components. Knotting of the colorful silk cords in the various collections helps to create a wonderful effect and compliments the beads or charms being used. Using the different color silk cords gives a unique look to each piece of the same style.
If you don’t see an animal you would like to include, please let Maria know and she will “go on safari” to find it.
